I built my first HTPC almost 10 years ago with old spare computer parts and hooked it up to a Samsung 27 inch SD TV. It all started with an AMD K6/2 processor, a Diamond TNT graphics card and a SoundBlaster AWE64 sound card on a DFI motherboard with a maxed-out 512MB of PC100 SDRAM. For the time, not a shabby start for a dedicated music and movie player.

Smoked Cornish Hens, Jack Daniels style! This recipe provides a sweet, juicy chicken that bursts with flavor. I highly recommend smoking with Jack Daniels Wood Chips. They are made with wood from old oak whiskey barrels and provide a very clean sweet tasting flavor that is not overbearing.
Preparation time: 15 minutes
Cooking time: 1.5 hours baked, 45 minutes grilled, 4-6 hours smoked
Serves: 4-6 people

Every year for Christmas, my sister in-law, Rachael, puts together a video with clips and photos of my daughter Zoe. This year was no exception! As always, she does an outstanding job putting the compilation together. Turn on your speakers and click the play button on the flash video below to watch this years movie.

It was 22°F, sunny with no wind today in Columbus… sounded like a perfect day to cook outside to me! Today, I smoked some salmon in my small charcoal smoker. Just a small meal tonight with a pound of salmon seasoned with cilantro, garlic and lime. You can view my recipe by clicking here.

After a disappointing 6-6 season for the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame, athletic director Jack Swarbrick announced today that Charlie Weis will return for the 2009 season. Weis’ return brings mixed emotions to the Irish faithful who have watched their beloved team struggle the last two seasons. After watching such abysmal performances as the Syracuse game and the final minutes against Navy, even I was quietly hoping that Weis would be replaced.

Stability is important for a football team. Unfortunately, stability isn’t something that has been practiced at Notre Dame over the last 11 years. With the short tenures of coaches Bob Davie and Tyrone Willingham, there’s no wonder to why the Irish have been on a roller coaster ride. Weis’ return should help bring some real stability to the program and will hopefully allow new recruits to assimilate into the Irish team instead of starting over for the fourth time this decade.

Ace Hardware is working the online holiday marketing with a fun online Flex application called Ace Your Face. The app allows you to upload photos and work your face into different holiday scenes. I spent some time toying with it over the weekend and had a lot of fun.

There are options to create holiday scenes with up to four people. Be sure to turn up the volume, the commentary is pretty funny. You can view the card I made by clicking here: http://aceyourface.acehardware.com/ace/index.jsp?cardKey=W21rgGkYcjs%3D.

After two years with Time Warner Cable and six years with Buckeye Cable System, I decided it was time to try something new. I was sick of continuously paying more money for less with cable and wanted to see what other options were available. Cable definitely isn’t trying very hard when it comes to HD channels. I really didn’t want to deal with satellite and decided to try out the AT&T U-verse IPTV.
My service was installed on September 27 and initially, I couldn’t have been happier. The only complaint I had was that sales sold me the “Sports Package” that didn’t really show sports. Nearly all professional sports were blacked out on these regional channels. Apparently, this is a pretty common issue on satellite as well with sales selling this package without the blackout notice.
